High in monounsaturated fats, avocados are a great heart, liver, and brain- healthy food. I always get asked for the recipe when I serve this!

¼ cup finely chopped white onion, rinsed under cold water
1 medium tomato, diced small
2 tablespoons fresh cilantro
2 teaspoons finely chopped jalapeno pepper with seeds
½ teaspoon sea salt
2 ripe avocados, pitted and peeled
1-2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice (to taste)


Combine onion, tomato, cilantro, jalapeno and seasalt in a small bowl. In a large bowl, coarsely mash the avocado with a fork or potato masher. Add the onion mixture and lime juice and stir until well mixed.

Serve with raw vegetables or tortilla chips. (Can be made ahead of time covered and refrigerated for up to 4 hours- keep the pit in and this will prevent browning).

Makes about 2 cups.
